Sea Green is the New Black (well, for now)

Did you watch the Emmy’s last weekend? Did it seem to you that a few women looked like they had just come from “Under the Sea” (that Little Mermaid song keeps playing in my head). Well, it seems that the color Sea Green, Teal, or whatever you want to call it is making a very big splash for the upcoming Fall 2012 season, both on the runways and in real life. One way you can incorporate this color into your wardrobe without breaking the bank:  get a cute $5.95 tank top from H&M (which is what I did) or even color your nails (Sally Hansen has a color called Blizzard Blue that will give you the color effect you need). So, you may not be able to wear a mermaid-inspired dress down a red carpet (anytime soon at least), but you can add a pop of this color to your wardrobe (and then give it away at the end of the season when it goes out of style!). See, you can look good AND do good J

Victoria Beckham’s Spring 2013 Line is Structured Yet Delicate

I am loving Victoria Beckham’s new line that just debuted at New York Fashion Week last week. It always seems to be that she makes the types of clothes she would wear, and alas, this line is no different. The pieces are structured, yet soft with a few lace details, giving it a delicate and feminine look. I also love how she uses very clean lines in her designs combined with simple black and white with a pop of color (orange). In my opinion, the focus becomes more about the structure and different play on textures of a piece rather than be distracted by color. She seems to do this quite seamlessly with this line…the pieces are classic pieces that can be interchanged with many different outfits for a fashionista on the go.

To get a sense of what I’m talking about, view the full collection here.

My favorite piece from the line is shown below.

What's With The Wings?

I’m really not sure who started this trend, but this shit needs to stop now. Most women have curvy hips and unless you have a straight up-and-down body type (in which case, most fashion rules don’t apply to you anyway) this fad with wings on the sides of dresses and skirts will not flatter you.  It makes us women look three sizes larger in just our hips! Isn’t the point of dressing for your body type to emphasize your favorite areas and deemphasize others? I mean, I want to look flattering in whatever I step out in, but I just don’t get this for the life of me, especially when I see someone who has a similar body type as me and who I believe has pretty damn good fashion sense make this mistake just because it’s a trend right now (see pic below of Kim Kardashian). Maybe I’m missing something here. Someone help me understand – is it just me that’s noticing this? Hell, I see this type of dress on the racks and I run the other way! I don’t care how much in trend it is, there are some things that just aren’t for curvalicious women like me! What’s your opinion of this fashion trend?
